(KNSI) - Target is joining Walmart in closing on Thanksgiving Day this year.
Normally, both big-box retailers would open later in the day on Thanksgiving, drawing in large crowds hoping to score a doorbuster deal.
Target CEO Brian Cornell says in a press release, "This year more than ever, a joyful holiday will be inseparable from a safe one, and we're continuing to adjust our plans to deliver ease, value and the joy of the season in a way that only Target can."
The store says it will be extending sales to both before and after Thanksgiving, but haven't revealed any plans for exactly what the "extra big savings" will be. The company did say that the sales will start in October.
The move is being made due to the COVID-19 pandemic and keeping people socially distanced.
