(KNSI) - Minnesota has been selected to participate in the Governor's Challenge to end Veteran death by suicide.
A collaborative effort by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the challenge aims to build up behavioral health services for Veterans in Minnesota to help treat the causes of suicide.
To support the sucess of this initiative, Governor Tim Walz has directed multiple state agencies to prioritize this effort and work collaboratively with other local, state and federal partners. "As a member of the Army National Guard for 24 years, suicide in our veteran community is a tragedy that I take personally," said Governor Walz.
Minnesota will be one of seven states to participate in the 2020 Governor's Challenge. Work has already begun with Veteran Suicide Prevention Training for all Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs employees underway.
