(KNSI) - St. Cloud residents are invited to step out of their homes on Wednesday evening and sing to show solidarity and honor those serving during the COVID-19 crisis.

Mayor Dave Kleis made the plea during his weekly address.

"No one stands alone in this fight against the virus. So, let's step out on our front steps, our porch, or our yard, all of you who are able. And for those who aren't, we'll stand for you. To show that we are united as a community and as a Nation."

He's asking people to step outside at 5 pm and sing God Bless America.

"Let's honor those serving us all in the healthcare profession, our first responders, truck drivers, grocery store workers, and so, so many more. Let's honor them as we sing God Bless America. Together let's lift our voices to lift their spirits."

Minnesota remains under a stay at home order, and many medical providers are still in short supply of personal protective equipment.
