(KNSI) - Certain prescription drugs have just become more affordable for patients.

Wednesday, President Donald Trump signed into law the bi-partisan Drug Prices Act, which now allows pharmacists to discuss lower drug prices with patients.

The law will lift long standing "gag clauses", which have existed for years between insurance providers and pharmacies. The contracts prohibited pharmacists from telling patients when the cash price for a prescription drug is lower than the price in a patient's health insurance policy.

The Drug Prices Act actually has two parts. One, the Know the Lowest Price Act affects Medicare and Medicare Advantage beneficiaries. The other, the Patient Right to Know Act, which affects employer-based and individual policies.
