(KNSI) - A Minnesota National Guard soldier who died while training at a base in South Carolina will be remembered on Thursday.

A memorial service for Pvt. Conner j. McGurran will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at Fort Jackson.

The Army has a tradition of holding unit memorial services for fallen comrades, honoring their service to the nation, and recognizing the impact they made on others.

The 19-year-old from Owatonna died on January 8th after being found unresponsive following a training exercise.

"We are grateful for the outpouring of support, from both on and off post, as we mourn the untimely and sudden death of Pvt. McGurran," said Fort Jackson Commander Brig. Gen. Milford H. Beagle, Jr. "We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends, who are here, during this difficult time."

McGurran was a member of the 3rd Battalion, 39th Infantry Regiment.

The Army is investigating what happened and what caused McGurran's death.
