(KNSI) - A major road project will close a 12 mile stretch of highway starting today.
Drivers who take Highway 15 between 66th Avenue in St. Augusta and Highway 55 in Kimball will need to add extra time, or plan an alternate route as construction gets underway.
Access to businesses and homes along Highway 15 will be kept throughout the closure. Customers may need to call businesses along Highway 15 ahead of time to find the best route.
A detour will be set up along Interstate 94, County Road 7, County Road 44 and Highway 55.
The detour includes a temporary four-way stop at the County Road 44/County Road 7 intersection in Fairhaven.
All lanes of Highway 15 should open in late-July.
The closure and detours are needed while crews reconstruct the highway, replace or repair underground culverts, install new rumble strips and improve accessibility at the Highway 15/County Road 47/County Road 136 intersection in St. Augusta.
When complete, the project will improve the ride along 12 miles of Highway 15, and improve drainage and accessibility.
