(KNSI) - The annual CentraCare Health Earth Day Run is this weekend and there's a new twist to the event.

Race organizer Jodi Gertken talked with KNSI's Bob Hughes and says the it's moved from St. Cloud State University to downtown St. Cloud.

"There's a brand-new route this year with our move to downtown so, we're not at SCSU anymore we'll be down at the River's Edge Convention Center and there's many places for spectators along the entire route."

Friday's Kids' Adventure 1K-presented by Capital One will have kids running on the East St. Germain Bridge.

The St. Cloud Subaru 5K and Greater St. Cloud Development 5K Corporate Challenge will start at the convention center and end at the convention center as will Saturday's Cetera Half Marathon and Half Marathon Relay.

Jodi talked about why they decided to move the event to the convention center.

"This is the 20th anniversary so, we wanted to go big so, we're moving it from St. Cloud State so that we can expand with the change of course and venue, we're hoping over the next couple of years to see even more participation."

Friday's Earth Day Run events include an adventure center and the Health and Fitness Expo from noon to 8 p.m.

There's an after party with live music when the running finishes on both Friday night and Saturday.

The Earth Day Run is the area’s largest and most popular running event bringing nearly 5,000 participants and 10,000 spectators to the St. Cloud area each spring.

The event will cause several roads to be closed or congested along the race route.
