(KNSI) - A Richmond man is now accepting donations for his cross-country bike ride to raise money for breast cancer research.

59-year-old Al Reszel will embark on a 3,500 mile solo trip this summer from the Santa Monica Pier in California, to the New York headquarters of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Al's wife, Terry (pictured above), was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010.

She underwent a bilateral mastectomy and has been cancer free ever since.

"It’s a daunting ride to be sure, but Terry and I are committed to seeing it through."

In 2015 the couple founded Pink Pedals 4 A Cure | Terry's Ride to raise awareness of the importance of breast cancer related research.

Al has completed two solo bike trips the last two years, but this is his first cross-country ride.

He is hoping to raise $15,000, click here to donate.
