(KNSI) - A Minnesota National Guard helicopter with three people on board crashed in Stearns County on Thursday.
No information on the three guard members who were on board has been provided.
Chief Deputy Dan Miller says the helicopter ran into trouble shortly after takeoff.
"About 2:15 this afternoon, we got a call that a Black Hawk helicopter was giving a mayday signal. We spent several hours with multiple departments trying to locate the scene."
The UH-60 Black Hawk crashed near Pearl Lake after it lost contact with the base on Thursday afternoon on a maintenance test flight from St. Cloud.
Miller says it's very early in the investigation.
"We're waiting for military personnel to get out here. We'll be coordinating with them to determine who is the lead on this incident."
Governor Tim Walz's office said the governor is on his way.
We'll bring you more information when it becomes available.
