(KNSI) - Richfield based Best Buy and Dick's Sporting Goods, following in the footsteps of Walmart and Minneapolis based Target, announced its stores would also be closed on Thanksgiving Day this year.

Best Buy's announcement, made on the company website says, "We can all agree that, so far, 2020 has turned out differently than what we might have expected. And now, the holiday season at Best Buy, including Thanksgiving Day, is going to look different, too."

Best Buy and Dick's Sporting Goods, along with Target and Walmart, have been open for shoppers on Thanksgiving Day to kick off the holiday shopping season.

The Best Buy website says, "To meet our customers' changing lives this holiday, we're enhancing the way we fulfill orders." The company says they are offering more convenient pickup options and making sure orders arrive on time. They also encourage customers to shop via the website and app.

The announcement also says some of the "hottest deals of the season" will be offered earlier than ever. There were no specifics given as to when those deals would be offered, but earlier this week, Target says it will be kicking off the holiday shopping season as early as October.

In its closure announcement, Dick's Sporting Goods says the 15 percent pay increase for employees at stores and distribution centers implemented at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic will remain in place through the end of the year.

Ed Stack, Chairman, and CEO of Dick's Sporting Goods says in a press release, "We are so thankful to our teammates for their hard work and dedication. They have navigated this year with strength, commitment and care for each other and for our customers. We will continue to do all we can to support them and show our gratitude."
