(KNSI) — Education Minnesota, the state’s largest teachers’ union, says two more school staff members have died from COVID-19 related complications.

That brings the total of COVID-related deaths to 18 since the start of the pandemic; ten of them since the start of the school year in September. Two students have also died from complications due to the coronavirus. The Minnesota Department of Health does not provide specific details about COVID-19 deaths associated with schools.

Education Minnesota has called on the department to release anonymous summary information about the school staff members who have died and the more than 400 students and staff members who have been hospitalized with COVID-19. The union says that information would help school district decision-makers improve safety protocols for students and staff.
