(KNSI) – A St. Cloud man has been charged with assault after allegedly beating a woman and her dog.
Investigators say Todd Richard Chauvin punched a woman in the back of her head and kicked her repeatedly on Saturday afternoon.
The 37-year-old also allegedly hit and kicked her dog.
St. Cloud police officers were called to the 200-block of 11th Avenue North.
According to the criminal complaint, a person called 911 because they could hear a fight going on for about half an hour.
When police arrived, they got no response and forced their way in to do a welfare check.
Police say they talked with a woman who stated she was smoking on the patio when Chauvin told her to come inside.
When she refused, she says Chauvin began assaulting her and hit her dog.
According to the complaint, Chauvin denied hitting the woman and said he hit the dog because he was mad that the dog peed on his shirt and pillow.
He also allegedly told the woman he would break the dog’s neck, the complaint said.
Chauvin has been charged with two counts of felony domestic assault and a misdemeanor charge of cruelty to animals.
Chauvin has prior convictions for making threats of violence in 2012, violation of a harassment restraining order in 2014, threats of violence in 2017, and violation of a domestic abuse no-contact order in 2017.
