(KNSI) -A Waite Park man accused of shooting a St. Cloud Police Officer in the hand has been found not guilty.

After a week-long trial, a Stearns County Jury acquitted 19-year-old Sumaree Deashon Boose of first-degree assault on a peace officer.

Boose was chased by police on foot on June 15, 2020, after he allegedly posted a video on social media showing a gun in his jean pocket.

Police found Boose at a gas station on the corner of 9th Avenue and University Drive, and he ran.

Prosecutors claimed after police caught up to Boose in the 1000-block of 10th Avenue South, there was a struggle.

Boose was tased twice, and he struggled with the cop over the gun.

During the struggle, a shot was fired and struck the officer in the hand.

Boose also suffered an injury to his chin, either from the bullet or the struggle.

The incident led to multiple nights of rioting and protests in St. Cloud, including an attack on the police station after false rumors circulated on social media that cops had killed two teenagers.
