(KNSI) – The man who helped invent Post-It notes has died.
In 1968, 3M employee Spencer Silver came up with the idea of an adhesive that was strong enough to hold paper together but could be removed, and stick again, but not damage the paper.
Another 3M worker, Art Fry, developed what would later become known to the world as Post-It Notes in 1974. His main objective was to prevent paper bookmarks from falling out of his hymnal while he sang at church.
Silver retired from 3M in 1996 and earned 37 patents along the way.
Silver was 80.
