(KNSI) – The ten-year-old boy who was shot while riding in his parents’ car in north Minneapolis Friday afternoon has been identified, and he’s from St. Cloud.
Police say LaDavionne Garrett Junior, or Junior as his family calls him, was with his mom and dad in Minneapolis visiting his grandmother when shots rang out in the area of 34th and Morgan Avenues North on April 30th. Junior was shot several times, including in the head.
Minneapolis Police Spokesman John Elder said after the shooting that the boy was “gravely injured.” Now at North Memorial Medical Center, his parents, family and friends keep watch over the boy, who is in a coma, and according to a GoFundMe that has been set up to help with medical costs, “fighting to live.”
The GoFundMe page says doctors were ready to pronounce Junior unable to save, but it says, “God had other plans.” Junior tried to reach for the tube in his mouth and was rushed into brain surgery, lending hopes to his parents, Dorice Jackson and Ladavionne Garrett, Senior, that their boy would be OK.
Police also don’t know who fired the shots that hit the vehicle Junior’s family was riding in. Anyone with information is asked to contact Minneapolis police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or by clicking here.
