(KNSI) – St. Cloud is moving forward on moving city hall to the former Tech High School.

At Monday’s city council meeting, council members approved signing a letter of intent to sell the old city hall for development.

Mayor Dave Kleis says the letter of intent grants Frauenshuh Commercial Real Estate in Minneapolis the sole right to negotiate a development agreement.

“We should have the building sold right as we are moving out of it and then they can start construction. The building will be taken down and that’ll be a piece of property that will be on the tax roll and having some economic activity going on in that little part of downtown.”

St. Cloud and the company have until October 1 to get the deal done. The sale will need final approval by the council.

Meanwhile, Kleis says work on turning the former high school building into St. Cloud City Hall is underway.

“Everything’s on track, on time, on schedule, and works being done over there already. Abatement and demolition will start very soon and from there then remodeling and will be moved in by the end of the year.”

City offices are planning to move into the 1917 and 1938 portions of the building.

Tech High School was initially was vacated after a new school was built in 2019.
