(KNSI) – The Sauk Rapids City Council is expected to promote Assistant Police Chief Brent Bukowski to the department’s top job as Police Chief Perry Beise heads into retirement.
City Administrator Ross Olson is recommending the appointment during Monday night’s meeting after talks with Beise, Bukowski and the city’s personnel and finance working group.
Beise is set to retire January 29th. Bukowski would take over as chief January 17th.
The city doesn’t plan to fill the assistant chief job Bukowski is leaving behind, at least for now. Instead, Sauk Rapids would hire two more patrol officers, and Bukowski would spread the assistant chief’s duties among the department’s sergeants.
Under the terms of his conditional offer, Bukowski would start at step six of the city’s 2027 salary schedule, which hasn’t been finalized yet. The chief’s position is non-union, and his other benefits would stay the same.
The appointment is on the council’s consent agenda, a group of items typically approved together in a single vote. The meeting starts at 6:00 p.m. at the Sauk Rapids Government Center.
