(KNSI) – St. Cloud police will help with security at St. Cloud Tech’s homecoming football game against Willmar this afternoon as officers continue investigating a social media post that threatened a large, planned fight at the game.

The school resource officer assigned to Tech High School was told about the post at about 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, October 6th. Police say no weapons were mentioned, and they’re still working to determine whether the threat is credible. The case remains under active investigation.

Today’s game is also the first under new security rules St. Cloud Area School District 742 announced Wednesday for all football and soccer games through the end of the fall season.

Every spectator will walk through a metal detector at the gate, and anyone who sets off an alert will get additional screening. Only clear bags or small bags no larger than five inches by eight inches are allowed, and every bag will be searched.

All football and soccer games now start at 4:30 p.m., and fans are expected to leave the facility and grounds promptly once the game ends. The district is encouraging spectators to arrive early and bring only what they need.

The district has not said whether the threat prompted the changes. They came less than a week after two people were shot outside Eden Prairie’s homecoming game in what police there have called a gang-related shooting.
