(KNSI) – Volunteers age 55 and older are the beneficiaries of a bowl of bouja later this month, as AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP hosts its Bouja Bash fundraiser at the Stearns History Museum.
The open house runs from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, October 22nd at the museum, 235 33rd Ave. S. in St. Cloud.
Admission is $15 and includes all the bouja you can eat, made by volunteers at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in St. Cloud, along with bread, a drink and a brownie. The evening also features music, bouja trivia, door prizes and a silent auction. Guests can explore the museum on their own or take a behind-the-scenes tour of collections and spaces that usually aren’t open to the public before the event starts. Frozen bouja will also be for sale while supplies last.
Holy Spirit has been cooking bouja in its “bouja shack” since about 1970, using steam kettles that originally came from the St. Cloud reformatory. Volunteers spend several days chopping vegetables by hand, and on cooking day the meat goes on as early as 3:00 a.m.
Granite Financial is sponsoring the event and will match the first $2,000 raised.
