(KNSI) – Drivers hoping the roundabout at County Highway 29 and Mayhew Lake Road would be open in time for the school year will have to wait about another month.
Benton County announced Wednesday the project will not be finished by the first day of classes on August 31st. The intersection stays closed, and detours remain in place.
The county had planned to have the roundabout open to traffic by the start of school. Inspections of the concrete curbs and the roundabout circle turned up cracking and inadequate curing. The Minnesota Department of Transportation has recommended the contractor tear out the original concrete and repour it.
The county now expects the work to be done by the end of September.
Families with students in the Sauk Rapids-Rice School District are asked to contact district offices with questions about how the closure affects bus routes and schedules.
