Collective Unconscious Brings Simon and Garfunkel Show to Summertime by George

(KNSI) – The Collective Unconscious headlines Summertime by George tonight with a show built around the music of Simon and Garfunkel.

The band takes the stage at 7:00 p.m. at Lake George. Organizer Troy Fritz told KNSI the group is performing its “Bridge Over Troubled Water” show, and that he has already seen what the band has lined up. “I saw the set list the other day, and it’s like, just come and sing along. It’s every song we know the crowd’s going to be just into it, just enjoying every aspect of Simon and Garfunkel.”

The Collective Unconscious has played across the Midwest for nearly two decades and specializes in performing classic albums in full, including the Beatles’ “Abbey Road,” the Beach Boys’ “Pet Sounds,” Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young’s “Déjà vu,” and The Band’s “The Last Waltz.”

Opening at 5:30 p.m. is Groovy Shoes, the duo of Tom Kuhn and Dave Cofell. The pair blends folk, blues, country, and rock into what they call “Broad Spectrum Americana,” backed by vocal harmonies and a stage full of instruments ranging from saxophone and flute to accordion, banjo, and megaphone. Fritz described how the duo handles familiar material from artists like Johnny Cash and Glen Campbell. “They’re just a blast. They bring a little bit of their own flair into the music to make them unique and fun.”

Food vendors and beverage stands open ahead of the music. Volunteers in plum colored shirts working the tavern are Rotaract members, and those in blue shirts are Interact members from area high schools. Both groups are sponsored by the St. Cloud Rotary Club.

Summertime by George is free to attend and runs weekly at Lake George.
