(KNSI) — A 19-year-old St. Cloud man is under arrest after he allegedly robbed a store and assaulted an employee Thursday afternoon.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Stearns County District Court, police responded to a business in the 1700 block of 7th Street South just before 2:30 p.m. An employee there said a man came in to buy cigarettes, and as the employee set them on the counter, the man grabbed them out of his hand and ran out of the store. The employee ran after the suspect, who pulled a gun and said, “I have a gun. Do you want to die? This is a real gun, not a fake gun.” That stopped the employee in his tracks, but the suspect punched him in the ear.

Through video surveillance, the suspect was identified as Marqies Tyrone Reed-Taylor, who was also wanted on a warrant out of Hennepin County for first-degree assault.

According to St. Cloud police, around 3:45 Saturday morning, Reed-Taylor was seen in the area of the 1000 block of 9th Avenue South. When officers tried to arrest him, he fled on foot but was caught a short time later and taken into custody.

Reed-Taylor is being held in the Stearns County Jail on the Hennepin County warrant and new felony robbery charges.
