(KNSI) – The Stearns History Museum is launching a new day camp for kids this August that takes young history buffs back to the earliest days of the region.
“Time Traveler Camp” will run Tuesday, August 4th through Thursday, August 6th, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Inspired by the 250th anniversary of the United States, the camp transports children to pre-settlement times and the early days of Stearns County, with each day devoted to a different era.
Day one sends kids out to explore new terrain like early explorers. Day two focuses on the fur trade. Day three covers Stearns County’s early industries, including granite, farming, photography and printing.
Hands-on activities will include hiking, Ojibwe and sign language lessons, granite splitting, wet plate photography and more.
The cost to attend all three days is $50 per child, which includes daily snacks and water. Campers must bring their own boxed or bagged lunch.
The museum is also offering six full scholarships for Stearns County families who meet the criteria. Those interested in applying can reach out to Program Director Caitlin for guidance through the process.
