(KNSI) – For the Sartell-St. Stephen Sabres Archery Team, no target is too far for victory.
In their fourth year as a program, the team competed at the National Archery in the Schools Program Championship from Thursday, June 18, to Saturday, June 20. The championship, held at the Ocean Event Center in Daytona Beach, Florida, saw the team finish with four podiums, six top-ten finishes, and seven personal best scores.
In the 3D Division, 6th-grader Hunter Knapp won first place with a 290 among Middle School Males. 4th-grader Aubri Brezinka won first place in Elementary Females with a score of 281.
5th-grader Lincoln Tschumperlin and 5th-grader Evalyn Starr also placed on the podium in the 3D Division. Tschumperlin took 2nd place in Elementary Males with a 290, while Starr claimed 3rd place in Elementary Females with a total of 276.
In the Bullseye Division, 6th-grader Maddox Tschumperlin placed 10th among Middle School Males with a 289. Brezinka finished 8th in Elementary Females with a 274.
Assistant Coach Jess Brezinka said that seeing the students score so high surprised her and left her with a strong sense of pride. “It was incredible to see one kid shoot 17 points higher than ever and another finally get his 290 that he’s been working for all season. Another came off a bad bullseye but turned that mindset around, shot again, and got first place as well. As a coach, it was just amazing to see.”
Head Coach Bob Brezinka echoed Jess’ sentiments, saying the results left him impressed and moved. “We’ve only been a program for four years, and to see us go and compete on the national stage at that level is just incredible.”
