(KNSI) – The Sartell City Council is set to vote on an amendment to the Mill District Trail project at its upcoming Monday meeting.
The amendment will establish a revised completion date for a proposed 10-foot-wide bituminous trail being constructed as part of Phase 1 of the project. While the original grant agreement called for the trail to be completed by summer, the revised amendment would push that deadline to late summer or early fall.
The city has cited various factors that have prevented the project from reaching its anticipated completion date. The most prominent roadblocks are contractor performance issues and the recent discovery of on-site contaminated soil. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, which awarded the city a 2024 grant to fund Phase 1 of the project, has said it supports the extension given the nature of the remaining work.
The city said that approving the amendment will ensure the project is completed to the required standards within the adjusted timeframe and that it meets the DNR’s grant requirements.
The Sartell City Council meets at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 22, at Sartell City Hall.
