(KNSI) – Stearns County will host a groundbreaking ceremony for its newly planned Justice Center at 7500 County Road 134 in St. Cloud at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 11.
According to the county website, the center is being constructed to address longstanding issues at its current facilities, including overcrowding, safety concerns and outdated infrastructure. It will house 270 jail beds, 11 courtrooms, the law library, the Sheriff’s Office, the County Attorney’s Office, Emergency Management and other justice-related spaces.
The design will also feature a single-floor jail with tiered housing units and an area for inmate health care. The Sheriff’s Office will have public-facing offices and training areas on the first floor and additional offices on the second floor. The courts section will span four floors, each containing one courtroom.
The center will be built on a 78-acre site at the intersection of County Roads 75 and 134, with construction anticipated to begin this spring.
