(KNSI) – The Sartell-St. Stephen High School Robotics Team has earned a major victory.

The team, as part of an alliance with Pequot Lakes and ROCORI High Schools, took home the state title at the Minnesota State High School League Robotics State Championship. They defeated the alliance of St. Michael-Albertville, Irondale and Warroad High Schools with a final score of 563-525. The event was held at Concordia University in St. Paul last Saturday, May 16.

The team’s standout achievement was their robot scoring 342 balls in 110 seconds during one of their matches, a feat that placed them in the top 1% of teams worldwide.

“The state championship has built a ton of momentum for our program,” said head coach Ryan Swanson. “We’ve got a lot of people fired up about it, and we’re going to turn that momentum into positive change for our team and community.”

Team Captain Karoline Deyo said the win resonated deeply with members. “That’s one of the things I enjoy most about robotics: seeing students watch their hard work pay off and keeping that momentum going. I also want to see where it can lead us in the future.”

Swanson said the team is currently advocating for a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) center in Sartell, which members could use to practice, grow and engage with the community. He hopes the momentum from the state title will help move that effort forward.
