(KNSI) – A St. Cloud Metro Bus operator has brought home top honors from a national competition.
Fixed Route Bus Operator Jason Hiivala took 1st place in the 35 Foot Division at the Community Transportation Association of America’s National Community Transportation Roadeo, held Sunday, May 10th in Omaha, Nebraska. The annual event brings bus operators from across the country together to compete in safety and service skills.
Hiivala was one of 20 contestants in the 35 Foot (large/city bus) Division. The competition also featured 51 contestants in the Body-on-Chassis (small bus) Division.
Metro Bus sent four operators to the national event, with two competing in each division. In addition to Hiivala’s first-place finish, the team produced three top-10 finishes overall. Carl Hallberg joined Hiivala in the 35 Foot Division, while David Peacock and Keith Drake represented Metro Bus in the BOC Division.
Operators who compete at the national level qualify by performing well at local and state roadeos the previous year.
