(KNSI) – A 12-year-old bicyclist was taken to the hospital Wednesday evening after being struck by a vehicle in a Sauk Rapids crosswalk.
According to Sauk Rapids Police Chief Perry Beise, a 16-year-old from Sauk Rapids was driving north on Benton Drive at around 7:15 p.m. when the driver saw and slowed for three juvenile bicyclists crossing from west to east in the crosswalk at 10th Street North.
After the three bicyclists crossed the street, the driver continued north and struck a 12-year-old bicyclist who was following behind the others. The 12-year-old suffered scratches from the road surface and was transported to St. Cloud Hospital by Mayo Ambulance.
The 16-year-old driver was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
