(KNSI) – Downtown St. Cloud’s summer dining tradition returns Wednesday morning, with city crews set to close part of 5th Avenue South to make room for outdoor patios.

5th Avenue South will be closed between West St. Germain Street and 1st Street South from 6:00 a.m. to noon on May 13th. Crews will install temporary dividers to block off the outer lane of the road, allowing 7 West Taphouse, Pioneer Place on 5th, and other downtown establishments to set up outdoor patio spaces.

The timing lines up with St. Cloud Area Restaurant Week, which kicked off Sunday and runs through Saturday. A total of 49 restaurants are participating in the weeklong celebration, with daily themed categories highlighting local dining.

Additional patios typically pop up along West St. Germain near the Pickled Loon and White Horse later in the week.

Outdoor dining took off in downtown St. Cloud during the COVID-19 pandemic, when capacity limits pushed restaurants to expand into the street.

The setup has since become a summertime fixture downtown.
