(KNSI) – Bikers and hikers will want to take advantage of the Lake Wobegon Trail this weekend because a stretch of it will be closed next week.

The closure runs from Monday, May 11th, through approximately Friday, May 15th, with the exact reopening dependent on weather and construction progress. The affected segment follows County Road 157 from west of Albany to 7th Avenue NE in Freeport. There is no detour.

Crews will be removing the old railroad trestle, replacing culverts, and reconstructing the road with 6-foot paved shoulders.

The Lake Wobegon Trail runs along a former Burlington Northern Railroad corridor, now owned by MnDOT and tied to the legacy of the Great Northern Railroad founded by James J. Hill.
