(KNSI) — A local high school student council has earned national recognition.

The Sartell High School Student Council has been named a National Gold Council of Excellence by the National Association of Student Councils, in recognition of its leadership, service, and community impact.

To qualify, a council must meet several criteria, including a written constitution, regular meetings, a democratic election process, and demonstrated participation in leadership development and community service activities.

Superintendent Doctor Michael Rivard said the honor reflects what Sartell students do every day, both inside the school and throughout the community.

Advisor Karrie Fredrickson said, “Our student council has worked hard this year to try to build connections with many groups to include fun activities, student mental health, relationships with staff, school culture and service. They have done this through collaborations, fundraising for families in need, FunFest for Make-a-Wish and more.”

“The student council at Sartell High School just pulled off something extraordinary,” said NASSP CEO Ronn Nozoe. “Their student-driven change has earned them national recognition as a National Gold Council of Excellence, proving that when young people are given the chance to lead, they turn their vision into real-world impact.”

The council also earned the honor in 2023 and 2024.
