(KNSI) – The head of a central Minnesota institution educating the next generation of professionals and masters of the trades is being recognized for how she steers the ship.

St. Cloud Technical & Community College President Lori Kloos has been named the 2026 ATHENA Award winner. The lifetime achievement honor recognizes exceptional women who lead others to achieve excellence in both their professional and personal lives. According to a press release, Kloos was selected for her ability to empower women both personally and professionally.

She was nominated by SCTCC sociology instructor Sangeeta Jha. “Lori’s leadership is distinguished by her deep understanding of the challenges women face, shaped by her experience as a first-generation college graduate. This firsthand knowledge informs her approach, motivates those around her, and fosters a supportive environment where everyone can thrive. Lori’s vision for educational equity and empowerment positions her as an outstanding candidate for this prestigious honor.”

Kloos has a 30-year legacy in leadership at the college, including time as its chief financial officer and vice president of administration. She is also active in the community. Kloos serves on several local boards and committees, including Greater St. Cloud, United Way, and the St. Cloud Downtown Rotary.
