(KNSI) – A fire at Westwood Elementary School in St. Cloud is now being investigated as arson.

According to the St. Cloud Police Department, the blaze broke out around 9:00 on Tuesday morning, March 31st, at the school, located at 5800 Ridgewood Road. Firefighters contained and controlled the fire, while staff successfully evacuated all students to designated safe areas. All students have since been reunited with their families.

Investigators have determined the fire was intentionally set.

City agencies are continuing to work with the school district to assess the building and determine when it can be safely reoccupied, with air quality and cleanup of the affected area listed as the main concerns.
