(KNSI) – A resolution affirming St. Cloud’s support for law enforcement and the rule of law will be before the city council again on Monday.

The measure was first introduced at the January 27th council session but was removed by its presenter, Councilman Scott Brodeen. His proposal came up as Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations had intensified across St. Cloud and Minnesota.

Because of the tensions from residents at the January meeting, Brodeen asked to have it removed until the March 23rd meeting to give people time to cool down. At the time, Brodeen told KNSI News he had received emails from community members who misunderstood his resolution’s intent, with some thinking it was a blanket ICE support statement.

Brodeen’s resolution emphasizes support for law enforcement within legal boundaries and states it does not endorse, excuse, or justify conduct that exceeds constitutional, statutory, or jurisdictional limits.

During that same January 27th meeting, the St. Cloud City Council voted 6-1 to reaffirm its commitment to being a welcoming community regardless of immigration status, ethnicity, or country of origin.
Council Member Brodeen attempted to amend that resolution to specify the city is welcoming for those who are here legally, but the amendment failed. He cast the only no vote on the resolution.

The meeting gets underway at 6:00 p.m. inside City Hall.
