(KNSI) – CentraCare is expanding its cancer services with the opening of the High-Risk Breast Clinic, a new program launching in April 2026 at the CentraCare Coborn Cancer Center.

According to CentraCare, breast cancer remains one of the most common cancers among women in the United States, affecting one in eight women. For individuals with elevated risk, navigating screening options, genetic questions, and prevention strategies can feel overwhelming.

The clinic brings together specialists from medical oncology, genetics, surgery, and radiology, all supported by a dedicated nurse navigator who coordinates care and connects patients with resources. Its protocols are guided by recommendations from the American Cancer Society, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, and the American College of Radiology.

Patients may be referred to the High-Risk Breast Clinic if they have risk factors such as a family history of breast or ovarian cancer, known genetic variations associated with elevated risk, dense breast tissue, or prior abnormal biopsies. During visits, the care team reviews each patient’s medical and family history, discusses enhanced screening options such as mammograms or breast MRI, and explores individualized strategies to reduce risk.

Amanda Pohl, RN, BSN, who will serve as the clinic’s High-Risk Breast Nurse Navigator, says the program fills a critical gap in care.
“As a registered nurse, I see high-risk patients carrying uncertainty and complex questions,” Pohl said. “This clinic turns risk into action with personalized surveillance, genetic evaluation, risk-reduction strategies, and compassionate guidance. It helps patients gain clarity and control over their health while improving outcomes.”

Patients can ask their primary care provider about a referral, or learn more about the new clinic by clicking here.
