(KNSI) – For the third consecutive year, a trio of local organizations has turned high school sports into something bigger than the scoreboard.

Sartell High School Athletics, St. Cloud Financial Credit Union, and St. Cloud Subaru raised $10,117 during the 2025-26 school year for cancer research and community support.

Sartell Activities and Athletics Director Bruce Thompson credited the people behind the effort for making it work year after year. “They care about Sartell High School, they care about giving back and they care about our community,” Thompson said of the partners involved. “I think that shows with everything they’ve done.”

Last year marked an expansion of the effort. What began as a cancer awareness night tied to Sartell Sabres football grew to include volleyball and boys hockey.

The funds were split between the Randy Shaver Cancer Research & Community Fund, which supports cancer research, prevention and treatment programs across Minnesota, and the TriUnity Foundation, a St. Cloud-based nonprofit that works to relieve debt burdens for individuals and families facing terminal illness.

Donations came from community members attending the awareness games throughout the school year.
