(KNSI) – A Morrison County deputy’s routine traffic stop in the early morning hours Saturday led to the seizure of more than two ounces of suspected methamphetamine.

The stop occurred at 12:06 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 10 and 83rd Street, north of Royalton, after a deputy observed a traffic violation. The driver was identified as a 31-year-old man from Minneapolis, and the passenger as a 48-year-old man from Red Lake. During the stop, the deputy observed possible drug activity. A K-9 team was deployed, and a search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery and seizure of the suspected methamphetamine.

The Red Lake man was taken into custody on an outstanding felony drug warrant out of Beltrami County and is currently being held in the Morrison County Jail. He also faces pending charges for first-degree possession of a controlled substance. The Minneapolis man was released at the scene.

Morrison County Sheriff Shawn Larsen said the incident highlights the dedication and vigilance of his deputies in combating illegal drug activity.

The investigation is ongoing.
