(KNSI) — A High Wind Warning is in effect for portions of central Minnesota starting at 10:00 p.m. tonight through 7:00 Friday morning.

The National Weather Service says northwest winds of 30 to 40 miles per hour are expected, with gusts up to 65 miles per hour possible at times. Forecasters warn the damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines, with widespread power outages possible. Drivers are also cautioned that travel will be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.

Rain and snow are expected Thursday afternoon through tonight ahead of the wind event. Forecasters say loose outdoor objects should be either tied down or brought inside before winds pick up.

The severe weather doesn’t end there. A winter storm is expected to impact the Upper Midwest this weekend, bringing heavy snow at times Saturday night through Sunday morning. Strong winds and blowing snow on Sunday could further reduce visibility.
