(KNSI) – St. Cloud State University Huskies Head Hockey Coach Brett Larson isn’t surprised that a player he once coached was a key component in winning the Winter Olympic Gold Medal on Sunday.
The USA Men’s Hockey Team took home the title after beating rival Canada in overtime, 2-1. Minnesota Wild left winger Matt Boldy was a key part of that team, finishing the tournament with four points (two goals and two assists), including the opening score in the gold medal game. Larson told KNSI he knew Boldy was on another level. “I can tell you, I know firsthand that kid had that talent. I coached him in a USA Hockey camp out in Buffalo. I had him on my team. And he’s been a special player his entire life.”
Boldy was selected in the first round (12th overall) by the Minnesota Wild in the 2019 NHL Draft.
