(KNSI) – A 29-year-old St. Cloud man is dead following a five-vehicle crash on Highway 95 near 65th Avenue Northeast in Benton County early Thursday morning.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol preliminary crash report, around 6:45 a.m., a man was driving a 1999 Ford Mustang eastbound on Highway 95 when he lost control on the snow and ice-covered roads, crossed into oncoming traffic, and struck a 1998 Ford Ranger driven by 21-year-old Oscar John Pendergrass of Cambridge.

Three additional westbound vehicles, a 2020 Jeep Renegade, a 2015 Dodge Journey, and a 2021 Chevrolet Equinox, were involved in the collision while attempting to avoid the initial crash.

The driver of the Mustang was killed. His name has not been released; the State Patrol says that information will be made available after the family is notified.

Pendergrass and the driver of the Jeep, 47-year-old Christina Dimler of Zimmerman, were both taken to CentraCare-St. Cloud Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The drivers of the Dodge Journey and Chevrolet Equinox, both from Foley, were not injured.

Benton County Sheriff’s Office and Sauk Rapids Fire Department assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol. Anyone with information is asked to call the St. Cloud District at 320-223-6666.
