(KNSI) — The man accused of stabbing his wife to death has been released from the hospital and booked into the Stearns County Jail.

According to a press release, a 911 call came in at 8:20 Saturday night for a medical emergency at an apartment complex on the 3100 block of 40th Avenue South. Crews arrived to find the body of 22-year-old Hallie Marie Tobler and her husband, 23-year-old Dylan Tobler, locked inside their unit. She had been stabbed several times and was pronounced dead at the scene. He also had several stab wounds and was rushed to CentraCare St. Cloud Hospital for treatment.

Investigators say they believe Dylan stabbed Hallie to death before turning the knife on himself. He is being charged with second-degree murder.

She is the daughter of former City Council member Jeff Johnson. Johnson, who announced on KNSI that he was running for governor, has suspended his campaign.

The Minnesota Republican Party issued a statement on its official X account saying, “There are no words that can adequately express the sorrow we feel for Jeff and his family. The loss of a child is unimaginable, and our thoughts and prayers are with them as they grieve this devastating tragedy.”

Party officials are asking all Minnesotans to “join us in lifting up the Johnson family during this incredibly painful time.”

They also thanked the first responders and police officers involved and “ask for patience and compassion as the investigation continues.”

St. Cloud police say the investigation is ongoing and that the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting.
