(KNSI) — The Minnesota Republican Party says the woman found stabbed to death inside a St. Cloud apartment Saturday night was the daughter of former City Council member Jeff Johnson.
In a statement issued on the party’s official X account, they say they are “heartbroken by the tragic loss of Dr. Jeff Johnson’s daughter, who was killed in a violent crime Saturday night in St. Cloud.
“There are no words that can adequately express the sorrow we feel for Jeff and his family. The loss of a child is unimaginable, and our thoughts and prayers are with them as they grieve this devastating tragedy.”
Police were called to 22-year-old Hallie Marie Tobler’s apartment for a medical emergency around 8:20 p.m. and arrived to find she had suffered multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, Dylan, had also been stabbed. Investigators say they believe he stabbed her before turning the knife on himself. He is hospitalized and once released will be booked into the Stearns County Jail.
Johnson, who announced his candidacy for governor on KNSI, has suspended his campaign.
Party officials are asking all Minnesotans to “join us in lifting up the Johnson family during this incredibly painful time.”
They also thanked the first responders and police officers involved and “ask for patience and compassion as the investigation continues.”
