(KNSI) — More than 60 CEOs of Minnesota-based companies, including St. Cloud-based CentraCare’s Dr. Ken Holmen, are calling for de-escalation after a federal immigration agent fatally shot a Minneapolis nurse over the weekend.

The Minnesota Chamber of Commerce released an open letter Sunday, one day after ICE agents shot and killed Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA, Saturday morning.

The letter describes “widespread disruption and tragic loss of life” and urges federal, state and local officials to work together.

“With yesterday’s tragic news, we are calling for an immediate deescalation of tensions and for state, local and federal officials to work together to find real solutions,” the letter states.
Business leaders say they have been working “behind the scenes” with the Governor, the White House, Vice President and local mayors in recent weeks as federal immigration enforcement operations have intensified across the state.

“We call for peace and focused cooperation among local, state and federal leaders to achieve a swift and durable solution that enables families, businesses, our employees, and communities across Minnesota to resume our work to build a bright and prosperous future,” the letter reads.

Other signatories include the CEOs of Target, Best Buy, General Mills, Mayo Clinic, 3M, UnitedHealth Group and U.S. Bancorp, along with representatives from the Minnesota Twins, Vikings, Timberwolves, Lynx, Wild and Minnesota United FC.
