(KNSI) — The National Weather Service is issuing a strong warning to stay inside if possible over the next few days, as dangerously cold Arctic air moves into the region.
An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect from 5:00 p.m. through noon Friday. Temperatures will drop below zero today and remain there through Saturday night. Overnight lows tonight are expected to reach around 25 below zero, with sustained northwest winds of 15 to 20 miles per hour and gusts up to 30. Wind chills could plunge to more than 50 below zero.
An Extreme Cold Watch begins at noon Friday and continues through noon Saturday. High temperatures are expected to reach only around 10 below zero, with overnight lows near 20 below. Winds will ease somewhat, but even light winds at those temperatures will push wind chills into the 40 to 45 below range.
Temperatures are expected to climb above zero for Sunday’s high. Overnight lows will remain below zero through at least Wednesday, though conditions will not be as cold as what’s expected over the next few days.
