(KNSI) – A central Minnesota lawmaker is touting a bill that will bring federal tax dollars to the district.
The U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate have passed a comprehensive appropriations bill that allocates $18.5 million for infrastructure projects in the region.
Congressman Tom Emmer said the Commerce, Justice, Science; Energy and Water Development; and Interior and Environment Appropriations Act includes $2.5 million for the Sherburne County Jail and nearly $16 million for wastewater treatment facilities throughout the district.
The jail funding will support critical infrastructure updates at the Sherburne County facility. The remaining funds will finance improvements to eight wastewater treatment plants and sewer systems in Sherburne, Benton, Wright, Carver, Stearns, and Anoka counties.
The wastewater infrastructure investments are designed to ensure residents across the district have access to clean water and modern sanitation systems.
The bill cuts nearly $2 billion from spending levels projected under the current continuing resolution. Emmer says the reduced budget aims to deliver savings to taxpayers while maintaining funding for priority projects.
The bill is on its way to President Donald Trump, who is expected to sign it before the end of the month when the current appropriations bill runs out of money.
