(KNSI) – The Barneløpet Kids’ Nordic Ski Fest will return to St. Cloud next month after extreme cold forced organizers to cancel last year’s event.

The Nordic Ski Club of Central Minnesota and the City of St. Cloud Parks and Recreation Department will host the 17th annual event February 1st at Riverside Park, offering children ages three to 13 a chance to try cross-country skiing in a noncompetitive setting.

The free event features age-appropriate courses ranging from 200 meters to one mile. All participants receive medals, and free equipment rentals are available on a limited basis.

“Our goal is to inspire young people to become confident winter sports enthusiasts by creating inclusive opportunities that make cross-country skiing accessible to all,” said Eric Vollen, co-chair of the event. “This event is about celebrating effort, fun and Minnesota winters.”
Hot chocolate and cookies will be provided, and reenactment skiers will be available for children to meet.

Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. at Riverside Park, 1725 Kilian Boulevard Southeast, with skiing starting at 1:00 p.m. Families can pre-register by emailing jonvollen@hotmail.com or calling 320-223-0544.

The event will be canceled if snow conditions are unsafe, with any decision announced by 11:30 a.m. on January 29th.
