(KNSI) — Benton County Sheriff Troy Heck announced he will not seek re-election this November, bringing an end to his 32-year career with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.
“After much reflection, I have concluded that the end of my current term will be the proper time for me to move on to the next chapter of life,” Heck said in a statement.
During his tenure, Heck highlighted progress made in reducing crime and improving public safety in Benton County through community partnerships. He expressed confidence that the sheriff’s office is “well-positioned to continue providing high quality public safety services under the guidance of the next sheriff.”
He thanked his staff at the sheriff’s office, law enforcement partners throughout Central Minnesota, and Benton County residents for their support throughout his career. He also acknowledged the support of his friends and family.
Looking ahead, Heck said he’s eager to spend more time with family and pursue personal hobbies.
Heck has served as sheriff for the past 11 years, calling it “the highlight of my law enforcement career.” His current term expires in January 2027.
