(KNSI) – Cold and snow are great news for planners at the St. Cloud Park and Recreation Department.
There will be winter activities aplenty in January and February. Riverside Park is hosting sledding, skiing, and snowshoeing every Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. All activities are free, and it is encouraged that people bring their own winter equipment. City supplies are limited, so a deposit may be required to rent them.
Riverside Park is the venue for a host of other special events, including the Winter Chill on January 31st from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The Central MN SkiSparks and Nordic Ski Club of Central MN will be providing cross-country lessons for beginners. Arts and crafts, snow painting, s’mores, and hot chocolate are also planned.
On February 21st, snowshoeing lessons will be offered. The Snowshoeing 101 program is a partnership with the Whitney Senior Center. Experts from Fitzharris Ski, Bike, and Outdoor help beginners fine-tune their form. Afterwards, all students get to warm up in the shelter with hot chocolate. There is no cost. And the winter version of Stars n’ Smores put on by the SCSU planetarium is set for March.
In addition to Bright and Bold, Lake George has some winter fun centered on its icy surface in the near future. Lace up the ice skates and belt out tunes from the 2008 film Mamma Mia! It’s a free night of laughter, movement, and music on January 23rd, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Inside the Lake George Municipal Complex on February 13th, a 15-and-older event will involve painting your best friend. Some of the drawings will be rather elementary, but that’s part of the fun. Snacks and soft drinks will be offered. The event does have a cost, though, at $55, and registration is required.
