(KNSI) – The Republican primary for the State House District 14A race has a second candidate.

John Jose announced on Facebook that he is running for the seat being vacated by two-term incumbent Bernie Perryman in the next election. Perryman is looking to win the area’s state Senate seat in 2026.

Jose is a relative newcomer to politics, having first made a splash last month in the Stearns County District 4 commissioner’s election. Jose was able to garner about 7% of the vote as a write-in candidate.

His Facebook page includes a brief biography. After serving in the U.S. Navy and Naval Reserve for eight years, he began a career at United Healthcare in Hibbing and Duluth. Jose moved to St. Cloud in 1991 to work for the scrapbooking company, Creative Memories.

He was ordained as a minister in 2001 and has served as a youth pastor at the Joy Christian Center for decades. He is promising to base his candidacy on eight principles, which will be laid out on the John Jose for MN House 14A website when it launches later this week.

District 14A includes the southern portion of St. Cloud, St. Augusta, and Waite Park.
